šŸˆ Jordan Love & Week 13 Waivers

The Steelers TE dominates, Chuba Hubbard impresses and the other Waiver Wire Pickups for your Fantasy Football team in Week 13 of the 2023 NFL Season.

Good morning. One thing we can all agree on: Being a fired NFL coach is the best job in America.

The Panthers relieved Reich of his duties after a 1-10 start. Some say that owner David Tepperā€™s willingness to fire coaches could make it difficult to attract a premier candidate (think: Jim Harbaugh). But if youā€™re looking for a big severance packageā€¦

  • Matt Rhule: Fired with $40 million on his contract

  • Frank Reich: Fired with $30 million on his contract

Reichā€™s 11-game run in Carolina was the shortest in-season tenure for an NFL head coach in 45 years. Even Urban Meyer made it 13 games (Albert Breer). Bill Belichick only lasted one day with the Jets.

As Kurt Benkert reminded us, the Colts also fired Reich and owed him $36 million through 2026. He was replaced by a former high school football coach. Remember?šŸ‘‡ļøĀ

RANKINGS

Kyren Williams rises to RB17. He showed no rust coming off IR, immediately earning 21 touches for 204 total yards and 2 TDs. He isnā€™t flashy, but produces ā€” especially near the goal line.

Amari Cooper falls to WR31. The cursed Browns could be starting their 4th (!!!) QB if theyā€™re forced to roll with Joe Flacco. While he might be an improvement over DTR or P.J. Walker, itā€™s hard to trust anybody in this struggling offense.

Rashee Rice (WR24) also saw a massive bump in our rankings, almost swapping positions with a falling Adam Thielen (WR30). Rice led the Chiefs in targets, finally seeing the volume weā€™ve waited all season for.

Our rest-of-season 0.5 PPR rankings were updated early this morningĀ šŸ‘‡ļøĀ

WAIVER WIRE

Running Back

Mitchell is THAT guy // Scott Taetsch, Getty Images

This week is thinner than usual on waivers for RBs, but weā€™ve got plenty of strong WR options. This weekā€™s best pickup might be the MUUUTH.

Must Grab RBs: Zach Moss, Keaton Mitchell, Chuba Hubbard, Zach Charbonnet, Tyler Allgeier.

Keaton Mitchell ā€œhad 11 touches and 10.9 fantasy points, playing nearly half of Baltimore's offensive snaps in Week 12. He has scored 10 or more fantasy points in three of his past four games while still splitting touchesā€ (ESPN).

He could see a massive uptick in volume after the Ravens bye, especially after OC Todd Monken said the Ravens are getting more comfortable with Keaton Mitchell in different personnel groupings (@JeffZrebiec). If his snap rate continues to rise (from 17% in Wk 9 to 46% Wk 12), Mitchell could win leagues down the stretch.

Chuba Hubbard is the better receiving back in Carolina, making him a strong streamer despite facing a Buccaneers defense allowing the 10th-fewest rushing yards/game. With a new coaching regime in place (and the firing of the regime that paid Sanders), we could see Hubbard take on a bigger role.

The Stash Plays (in order of preference):

  1. Zach Moss

  2. Tyjae Spears

  3. Charbonnet

  4. Allgeier

  5. Ty Chandler

  6. Dā€™Ernest Johnson

  7. Rico Dowdle

  8. Elijah Mitchell

  9. Royce Freeman

  10. Ezekiel Elliott

  11. Jeff Wilson

  12. Kenneth Gainwell

Jeff Wilson Jr. saw 14 touches, including three receptions, in Week 12, finishing with 73 total yards. With Achane (knee) plagued by injuries, Wilson is a Raheem Mostert injury away from the RB1 role in the leagueā€™s most explosive rushing attack.

Kenneth Gainwell is the forgotten man in Philly after Dā€™Andre Swiftā€™s breakout. Swift has never played a full season and Gainwell would see the most usage should an opportunity open. Gainwell had 10+ ppr points in his one game with a 60+ snap percentage this season, and the Eagles have an incredible playoff schedule for RBs (SEA, NYG, ARI).

More Keaton Mitchell:

Wide Receiver

Must grab WRs: Josh Downs, Jayden Reed, Demario Douglas

Strong Adds šŸ‘‡ļøĀ

Josh Palmer: About three weeks ago, Chargers HC Brandon Staley said Palmer would be out ā€œfour weeks for sureā€. The past three weeks showed Quentin Johnston is a bigger threat to the Starbucksā€™ baristaā€™s job than to Palmer's role as the WR2.

In games without Mike Williams, Palmer averages 7+ targets and 11+ fantasy points. He was WR11 in his last full game. We still have no timetable, but stash now.

Jalin Hyatt: The Giants second round rookie caught five of six targets for a career-high 109 receiving yards. It was the Giants' first game this season in which a receiver surpassed 100 yards. Hyatt had a 92 PFF grade (1st among WRs). It helped that Darius Slayton (neck) was banged up, but Hyatt and DeVito could continue to build chemistry.

Curtis Samuel: Samuel saw a season high 27.3% target share in Week 12 and posted 19 ppr points. OC Eric Bieniemy has the Commanders throwing often and Samuel surprisingly leads the team in targets per route run. The Dolphins struggle against slot WRs, making Samuel a strong streamer this week.

Noah Brown: He might miss Week 13 (knee), but Iā€™d stash him in deep leagues. His Weeks 8-10 metrics were incredible: 17.1% target share, a 23.4% air-yard share, 4.55 yards per route run and a 16.7% first-read share. That translated into 127+ yards per game.

Brandin Cooks: ā€œCooks is startable in Week 13 against the Seahawks, but DEFINITELY startable in Week 14 against the Eagles who are No. 31 in WR aFPA.ā€ Over the past month, Cooks is WR8 in PPRā€¦

  • Jonathan Mingo: Just kidding, the Panthers are ass. Avoid.

  • Elijah Moore: Quietly had 5-44-TD and 6-60 in Weeks 10 and 11 before seeing a season-high nine targets in Week 12. Still just 23, Moore could see his former teammate Joe Flacco at QB soonā€¦

  • A.T. Perry: Perry could be starting in two-WR sets in Week 13 against a Lions secondary allowing the 5th-most PPR points per target to WRs.

QB & TE

MUUUTH // Pittsburgh Post Gazette

Pat FreiermuthĀ is just 48% owned in Yahoo leagues. Wow. The MUUTH had 11 targets and 120 receiving yards against the Bengals in Week 12, the most by a Steelers tight end since 2018. In their first game since Matt Canada was fired, the Steelers prioritized Freiermuth. It paid off in a big way. Look for that to continue in Week 13, as the Steelers face a Cardinals team using two-high safety looks often:

Adam Levitan, via ESPN

Jordan Love has scored 20+ points in each of his past two games and posted career highs in quarterback rating and completion percentage against the Lions on Thanksgiving Day (ESPN). You can watch a full breakdown at the QB School (video). Heā€™s arrived.

Matthew Stafford ā€œhad all of his offensive playmakers at his disposal Sunday against the Cardinals, including Cooper Kupp, Puka Nacua and Kyren Williams. He delivered with a season-high 23.3 fantasy points, Stafford's 15th career game with at least four passing touchdownsā€. You want him for the fantasy playoffs, when Stafford faces the Commanders, Saints and Giants in Weeks 15 through 17.

Juwan Johnson: With the Saints WR room demolished (Olave, Shaheed and Thomas all could miss Week 13), Alvin Kamara should see 10+ targets. The other guy to benefit? Juwan Johnson.

Johnson missed some of Sundayā€™s game with an injury but still saw seven targets, the second most on the team. Playing over 70% of snaps, Johnson is a streamer TE against a Lions defense struggling to stop any passing attack.

  • Chigoziem Okonkwo: With four or more targets in 4/5 games, Chig is a streamer against the Colts defense allowing the 6th most points to TEs.

  • Cade Otton has four or more catches in five of his last six. He doesnā€™t have game-breaking upside, but rarely leaves the field and is a strong dart throw.

  • Hunter Henry has a great matchup against the Chargers defense, regardless of who is at QB.

DEEP DIVES

X Gonā€™ Give It To Ya

Xavier Gipson // The Athletic

The idea is you pick up players the week before everyone adds them off the waiver wire. Last week, the perfect pickup was Jalin Hyatt.

ARI WR Greg Dortch (0.3%) now has eight or more targets and 11+ in two straight. While Michael Wilson could return, Dortch is a borderline must-stream whenever Wilson sits.

NYJ WR Xavier Gipson (0.2%) is an undrafted rookie that started the year as a return specialist, but became the Jetsā€™ starting slot receiver four weeks ago. Heā€™s played over 70% of snaps the last two weeks, and while it hasnā€™t come with much production, he showed his big play ability with his walk-off punt return TD in Week 1.

NE WR DeVante Parker (1.8%) played for the first time since suffering a concussion in Week 8 and recorded 3 catches on 5 targets for 42 yards while playing 75% of snaps. NEā€™s offense isnā€™t pretty, but Parker can still get deep.

GB TE Tucker Kraft (0.9%) is the full-time starter with Luke Musgrave on IR. Kraft doesnā€™t offer as much upside as Musgrave, but at 6ā€™5ā€ 259 lbs, heā€™s a red zone threat.

NYJ QB Aaron Rodgers (15.5%) could actually return in Week 16, per Ian Rapaport of NFL Network. If you have an IR spotā€¦ why not?! If he returns Week 16, Rodgers would face a Commanders defense that allows the most TDs and 4th most total yards (377) per game.

QUICK SLANTS

šŸ“– Read Fantasy Football Waiver Wire, Week 13 by Kyle Dvorchak from NBC Sports. Kyle makes the case for Samaje Perine.

ā€œHe has eight touches and at least a dozen PPR points in back-to-back games. He has played on 77 percent of the Broncosā€™ two-minute drill snaps and 62 percent of their long down and distance snaps this season.ā€

šŸ“– Read NFL Week 12 Recap by Nathan Janke from PFF. It appears the change from Matt Canada didnā€™t drastically alter the Steelers offense:

ā€œThe change from Matt Canada reportedly would mean more opportunities for Jaylen Warren and Diontae Johnson, but Warrenā€™s usage relative to Najee Harris was the same, and Pickens' target rate has remained between 15-18% each of the last four games.ā€
